Celebrating the local, Tasmanian Timber receives its own Award category at the Australian Timber Design Awards

Grown locally and sustainably, Tasmanian timber is processed to the highest standards, and backed by the technical support of Australia’s leading timber experts.

That’s why it’s specified by some of Australia’s leaders in architecture and design. These design pioneers have specified Tasmanian species in some of the most beautiful, innovative and thought-provoking projects over the last several years.

We are thrilled to share that the specific use of Tasmanian Timber is now being honoured and celebrated at the Australian Timber Design Awards in its very own category, ‘Best use of Tasmanian Timber’.

The award ‘Best use of Tasmanian Timber’, falls under the Timber Products competition class that recognises the excellence in the use of specific timber products in a project.

The best use of Tasmanian timber used in any form for creation of projects includes all Tasmanian species applicable including Tasmanian Oak, Blackwood, Myrtle, Celery Top Pine, Sassafras, Huon Pine, and Plantation Ash.

The Australian Timber Design Awards are held in the spring of every year and feature some of Australia’s best timber designs across a range of categories.

Last year Tasmanian furniture designer-maker Simon Ancher received the award for ‘Furniture and Joinery’ for his Tasmanian Oak Couch and most notably, The Seed House by James Fitzpatrick featuring Tasmanian Blackwood, Celery Top and Huon Pine, took the Overall Winner award.

Entries are now open, and we encourage architects, interior designers, joiners and furniture makers to put forward their projects for recognition. Award entries close on July 15th (the deadline has been extended due to COVID-19). We can’t wait to see the winning projects!

Now more than ever, the use of Australian timber should be highlighted and celebrated. Supporting Australian has never been more critical, for the sustainability of our economy as well as our planet.
