Questions about Tasmanian Timber? Ask the expert.

In an industry with many highly knowledgeable people, few have the length and breadth of experience as Michael Lee. Michael, or Mick as he is known, has been in the timber industry in Tasmania for over 35 years. A former Production Manager at one of the largest timber companies in the state, and Operations Manager and General Manger at other major operations Mick knows Tasmanian timber like few others.

Nathan Kotlarewski – Research Fellow in Timber Design and former colleague says:

“Michael has exceptional career experience in the Timber Industry. He has an incredible understanding of commercial practices and business management. His experience with wood bridges industry production with timber applications in the built environment that are fit-for-purpose. Definitely a colleague I would involve in all my projects.”

In addition to his work on the ground, Mick has been the Technical Manager for the Forest and Forestry Industry Council (FFIC), involved with various government bodies and has been heavily involved with the University of Tasmania throughout his career, including as the Technical Officer for the Centre for Sustainable Architecture With Wood (CSAW). He is also a Certified Project Professional (CPP) with a passion for promoting the correct and sustainable use of timber in the built environment.

In other words, if you need to know anything about Tasmanian Timber – call Mick.

“If you’re looking for information on design, suitable products, where to buy Tasmanian Timber, how to get a quote, what species to use and so on I can help you find a solution. There’s no bad questions, I can always find an answer for you” says Mick.

The Technical Hotline was designed to do just that – help specifiers to find the answer to any question that will enable them to overcome design challenges and find the right timber for their next project. Mick says finding quotes is also something the helpline can help with:

“The helpline is also used regularly to obtain quotes, and we really encourage this. By using the helpline you ensure the timber you are sourcing is from a sustainable source and has been dried and processed to the highest standards. We connect you with the right suppliers and products for the application.”

“We also offer support after the timber has been purchased. Timber servicing is one of the things that we look at quite markedly and have put a lot of research into. We’re prepared to help solve any issues or questions to ensure you get the best out of the finished product.”

The Technical Helpline answered 200 calls last year helping to ensure specifiers find the right Tasmanian timber for the right application.
