Figured and Craft Timber

Figured and Craft Timber

Tasmania’s diverse landscape and species provide varied combinations of colour, grain and figure in recovered timber and veneers that are highly prized among craft and specialist furniture and artifact maker throughout Australia and the world.

Tasmania, with its unique geography and environment, has some of the best cool temperate forests in the world, and these forests yield Eucalypt hardwoods and Tasmania’s special species: Blackwood; Myrtle; Sassafras and the endemic pines; Celery top pine and Huon pine.

As individual trees grow, the characteristics of their specific location and incidents in the life of the tree influence its timber. These can generate a range of highly unique grains, figures and textures in the wood that are available as solid craft timber or specialist veneers.
